We’ll Miss You Jack!

One of or former members, Jack Danner, passed away after 2 weeks in hospice care at the end of July at the age of 89.  Jack’s family invited his friends to a wonderful celebration on Monday, Aug 18th.  It was well attended.

Jack was a very busy person, who always found time to do a lot for our club.  Though Jack was a retired physicist - program manager for Boeing, he shared his talents with us as an accomplished musician during our Christmas parties and taught many of us how to cast a fly rod, tie flies and build fishing rods at specially run Western Washington Walleye Club events.

Many times Jack and I sat down and discussed what type of flies, jigs or lures we could tie that might work on walleye.  These discussions were always highlighted by a glint in Jack’s eyes and followed by his wonderful smile.  Jack truly enjoyed fishing.

At the “Celebration”, I found that Jack used fishing, hunting and boating as an excuse just to enjoy the outdoors, especially with his family and friends.  For a busy man with a lot of responsibility at Boeing, Jack made sure that family came first.  This remained true through out the time I knew him.  Jack’s wife June came to our WWWC meetings and fly tying events at our business on Saturdays.  On those Saturday occasions, Wendy would take June out for a little woman-to-woman escape.  During our discussions on fishing, Jack always found an opportunity to interject how much he enjoyed sharing his passions with his family and friends.

I think we could all still learn from Jack today.  As busy as we may get and as frustrating at times life can be, we should always make time for our family, enjoy our friends and share our passions with both.

We’ll miss you Jack!
